In March 2008 we were commissioned to design a new theatre for Manchester Grammar School with a budget of £2 million. The brief for the project was to create a new state of the art theatre within the confines of the existing building. This involved stripping the theatre back to the shell and reconfiguring the layout of the stage to create a new modular stage with orchestra pit and a comfortable 200 person seating arrangement. There was also the addition of a new 15m tall fly tower above the stage to allow for the flying of scenery in and out. A new foyer was created behind the seating with a modern entrance canopy and improved access to the building.
