Client: Luneside East Limited
Location: Lancaster, UK
Project Status:  Planning
Visualisation: Ourstudio

This scheme for student housing forms part of a larger masterplan for the redevelopment of the St George’s Quay area of Lancaster. In conjunction with the City Council and Luneside East Limited this site is to be developed to provide new student accommodation.

Just-H Architects have been asked to design a scheme for the construction of 419 student rooms in a mix of studio and cluster units above retail leisure provision that incorporates a mix building heights across the site.

The proposals have been organised to reference the existing streetscape and landmarks, with the main building elements facing onto St George’s Quay on either side of the road.

The design strategy for the development was to create a series of stand-alone structures within a landscaped parkland. The buildings themselves would be modelled around the existing industrial architecture of the site with the highest structures facing the road.  The parkland areas offer a mix of soft and hard surfacing including a range of tree specimens and opportunities for the activities within the buildings to spill out into the surrounding space as well as creating connectivity to neighbouring uses and making a feature of the historic stone material that is available to sculpt seating and artwork.
